It was a true pleasure to have the support of @comunidadmadrid in celebrating Spanish National Day at @uniofqld. Their sponsorship made possible a memorable evening that brought together culture, music, and gastronomy in a heartfelt tribute to Spain and its vibrant traditions.

The event began with a commemorative cocktail reception that welcomed guests to an atmosphere filled with the essence of Madrid. Attendees were treated to an audiovisual homage to the renowned Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo, whose timeless music evokes the soul and beauty of Spain.

The performance was accompanied by the captivating live guitar of @pacolaraflamenco, adding depth and emotion to the celebration.

Following the performance, guests indulged in a tasting that showcased the flavours of traditional Madrid cuisine. The menu featured a selection of beloved Spanish classics — the ever-comforting tortilla española (Spanish omelette), golden croquetas with a creamy filling, rich and nutty Spanish manchego, and the iconic gildas, a burst of salty, tangy flavour in a single bite. To conclude on a sweet note, warm churros dipped in thick, velvety chocolate delighted everyone, capturing the comforting simplicity of Spanish desserts.

It was a special occasion to honour our culture, celebrate our culinary heritage, and strengthen the ties between Spain and the Hispanic community in Australia.
